Selfridges Oxford Strteet London ~ summoning the festive sparkle of late night, winter, London xmas lights.
Featuring the luxurious Beaux Arts ionic pillars of Selfridges department store – one of my favourite shops and a pleasure to wander through…
The building was designed by Daniel Burnham and Francis Swales aided by British architects R. Frank Atkinson and Thomas Smith Tait for Harry Gordon Selfridge, and opened in 1909.
The statue of the Queen of Time standing on the prow of the Ship of Commerce and attended by nymphs is the work of Gilbert Bayes, a leading exponent of the New Sculpture movement, created in bronze, decorated with gilding, blue faience and Royal Doulton stoneware.
