William Blake

part of the landscape of my youth ~ William Blake saw angels and firey tigers and taught me that the “road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom” maybe I took that proverb of hell too literally!

Niall McDevitt guided and beguiled us with the poetic true story of William Blake on a rainy Saturday in Soho 12.11.16.

Starting at the Society Club in Ingestre Place, through Broadwick St where Blake was born, now Patisserie Valerie, on through Marks and Spencers – site of the old Pantheon and to Glasshouse St where Blakes parents both ran gentlemen’s hosiery shops. Many tales were told and doors unlocked – highly recommended and enjoyable even in the rain. Keep an eye and ear out for more poetopographical tales…..

Some lines concerning clothing from William Blake taken from

“The Marriage of Heaven and Hell – proverbs of hell”

Folly Is the cloak of knavery.

Shame is pride’s cloak…

the pride of the peacock is the glory of God…..

Exuberance is beauty….
