I first saw this image when Hannah Starkey was featured as one of the winners of the 1997 John Kobal Foundation, National Portrait Gallery, London.
I travelled to the Maureen Paley gallery in backstreets of Bethnal Green and saw the larger than life size images. They move me.

I am inspired by her mix of artifice and natural. She chooses real women as actors in her staged photographs which summon a specific moment that reminds me of a feeling I have had.
I love her use of light which reminds me of the paintings of Edward Hopper.
